Earlier this week an angel named Motion sent me a video announcement from house music’s legendary Louis Sims. The short film finds the Chicago DJ sharing a sober yet funny anecdote from his father’s deathbed, then explaining how that experience awoke in him a realization that it was time to “get down” and get back to his essence.
For lovers of dance music, this return to form means more than silky grooves. Lil Louis is the Director of a new film entitled The House That Chicago Built. Promising to tell “the real and often shocking true history of House Music,” the project is blessed to have at its helm one of the most integral makers of that history. Of course, The Founding Father of House Music has invited many to the (turn)table — Frankie Knuckles, David Guetta, Armin van Buuren, Larry Heard, Pete Tong, Derrick Carter, Louie Vega, Kenny Dope, Todd Terry, DJ Spinna, Derrick May, Fedde Le Grand, Avicci, Basement Jaxx, Gregor Salto and Cajmere are only a fraction of the 100+ artists to be featured.
